MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR MONDAY: OVEREEM VS. BROWNE RUMORED

There is a heavyweight fight rumored with this summer, and it’s a large one. Based on MMAjunkie.com, former Strikeforce heavyweight winner Alistair Overeem is expected to return to the cage at UFC 164, which takes place August 31 at Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI. And his rumored competition is none aside from heavyweight banger Travis Browne, although this fight is still far from official. Should it materialize, however, expect this to be the co-main event for UFC 164 as it is unquestionably one of the greatest battles of the summertime. Overeem, who was shockingly knocked out by Antonio”Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156, was set to return to action against Junior dos Santos in UFC 160 but had to pull out due to injuries, but now healthy, he’ll seem to get back into title contention by taking out the rising Browne, that also has a recent loss to Silva. This is a fairly even matchup but I really do favor Browne to win the battle, and I believe he could win it by knockout. But, Overeem has all the hype and people support behind him and, although he lost to”Bigfoot,” I still expect him to open as the favorite in this fight, possibly in the -200 range, together with the comeback on Browne being +150. And if that is true, then I’ll certainly be recommending a play on Browne, who is coming off a KO win over veteran Gabriel Gonzaga. Another wager to target for this battle will be that it doesn’t go to conclusion, as man has the capability to knock one another out, so definitely consider making a play on this prop if it is under -300 come fight night. Lauzon vs. Johnson Booked For UFC on FOX Sports 1 The UFC now booked a lightweight bout between Massachusetts native Joe Lauzon and Michael Johnson for the upcoming UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 card, which takes place August 17 at Boston, MA. The battle will probably be a preliminary card bout. This is an excellent fight between two of the exciting fighters in the UFC lightweight branch so kudos to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva for reserving it. For Lauzon, it is a chance to redeem himself after losing to Jim Miller at a war at UFC 155, while Johnson wants to bounce back major time after enduring back-to-back defeats to Myles Jury and Reza Madadi. This is an aggressive fight if it stays standing but when it hits the ground then Lauzon, who’s a BJJ ace, will have a massive advantage over Johnson, who has quite a inadequate ground game. Therefore, I expect Lauzon to open at about -230 or so with the launching comeback on Johnson being around +170, although things may easily change when the public decides they prefer Johnson to win. As for me, I believe this is a very good matchup for Lauzon so I’d predict him to win and I certainly would be targeting him to get a wager this summer, in addition to targeting the Lauzon via submission prop.
